The urban landscape and special sectors in Bogota, the focal point of the city’s profile is the International Center with its cluster of high-rise buildings. La Candelaria, the historic center lies to the south of this reference point. Many Colonial churches and local and central government offices are in La Candelaria Northward, the historic neighborhoods of La Merced, Teusaquillo, Palermo and Quinta Camacho, with their imposing mansions, many english style, bring memories of a prosperous past.
Chapinero, once a cluster of weekend country houses, is nowadays an area of busy shops and crowded streets. Further to the north, there are two major financial centers, Avenida Chile (or calle 72) and calle 100, very recently developed. The area of Usaquen, formerly a town away from the city, still preserves its old square, and is well-known for its restaurants and antique shops.
