This modern building (opened in 1969) houses Bogota’s main center for scientific instruction in astronomy and astronautics.
There is the planetarium itself, for projections. Oriol Rangel auditorium, (a conference room, a video room, art gallery), an exhibition area, and the Museum of Urban Development. The Planetarium holds 500 people. The cupola is a truncated sphere used as the projection screen. The simulation of the stars, planets, and cons – Phones Lations in movement is true to nature. The son-et-lumiere provided by laser effects is another great attraction. The 174-seat conference hall is used for cultural and academic events. The art gallery has permanent exhibitions of established artists and young Colombian and foreign talent. The Urban Development Museum has plans, models, and photographs to illustrate the evolution of Bogota.
The 174-people capacity Oriol Rangel Auditorium, is the setting for significant academic and cultural activities, such as lectures, projection of outer space films (the Wednesday’s Astrocine) and classic and Colombian music concerts. Permanent exhibitions of established and young Colombian and foreign artists are shown at the Santa fe de Bogotá Art Gallery. A restaurant and a shop selling souvenirs can be found on the Planetario premises.
