This house was initially the house where Jorge Eliecer Gaitán lived until the day he was murdered on April 9th of 1984, which led to a major civil protest in the city known as The Bogotazo (episode of violent protests, riots, and repression in the downtown area). The museum Jorge Eliécer Gaitán holds a collection of more than five thousand pieces, including objects from his personal and family life, as well as others, belonging to his professional life as a lawyer that were found in his once located in the Agustín Nieto building (including his personal library). Since 2005 it has been under the command of the National University of Colombia.
