Bogotá Modern Art Museum was created in 1955, and has been on its pre sent site since 1985. Architect Rogelio Salmona designed the 53,000 sq ft. building. There are six main exhibition rooms in which individual exhibits of well-known artists alternate with the permanent collection, and a recently opened room for young photographers. There is a bookshop, cinema, conference room, a restaurant and an art library.
The museum has a very complete collection of modern and contemporary art. The permanent collection includes works by leading Colombian artists, such as Obregon, Grau, Manuel Hernandez. Negret, Ramirez Villamizar, Botero, Wiedemann and Beatriz Gonzalez; foreign artists are represented by de Syszlo, Dali, Jesus Rafael Soto, Picasso, Ernst Felguerez and Vicente Rojo.
The museum mounts permanent exhibitions, conferences, workshops, courses, film cycles and other cultural events.
Permanent exhibitions, lectures, workshops, courses, cultural activities and guided tours are some of the programs scheduled at the museum. Rooms are also for hire to hold meetings. A bookshop selling books and Museum souvenirs is located in the Museum premises. Films are shown daily at the Los Acevedo cinema.
