The Jiménez de Quesada Avenue is an important road that runs through the historic center of the city of Bogotá (Colombia)
Jimenez Avenue was once the main center of Bogotá. It was named after the founder of Bogota. It has a very beautiful sidewalk for pedestrians between Carreras 4th and 10th, surrounded by monuments and buildings with unique relevance, among which is the San Francisco Church, the Ancient Government House of Cundinamarca or San Francisco Palace, the EL Tiempo Newspaper building (Nowadays the headquarters of an important television broadcast company), the Banco Agrario building, the Pedro A. Lopez building (Bancafe) and El Rosario square. Between cameras 7 and 8, on the southern side, the emerald traders meet everyday to exchange and commercialize their minerals, uncut or carved as precious stones. Even though these stones can be purchased in the streets at very low prices, it is risky since there is no guarantee of the product, specially if you are notan expert. The main attraction nowadays is the symbolic recovery of what was once the San Francisco river, which was channeled in 1930 and passes beneath this avenue.
