The Museum of the Sea was created in 1969 by the School of Sea Sciences from the Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano, and it displays the museographic assemblies of stuffed species, skeletons and fossils that are organized in sections, illustrating diverse themes related to the sea life. It exhibits marine ecosystems of polar zones, tropical coasts, Oceania, and open seas. Other highly interesting features are the sections of fossils, geological eras, seabirds, particular environments and sailing and fishing elements, among many others.
The collection includes curious pieces displayed in different places of the building, such as a giant clam and skeletons of manatees, dolphins, and fin whales. The museum also has small fish tanks where sea urchins, lobsters and crabs are exhibited alive.
