Many works by the artist Fernando Botero are on display at the Botero Museum in the center of Bogotá. This site in La Candelaria was founded in a colonial house, and houses a collection of 208 works (123 by Botero and 85 by international artists) that the artist donated in 2000 to the Bank of the Republic.
Botero Museum: A total number of 208 works of art, 85 of them international and 123 belong to the artist’s own work. Fernando Botero turns Bogotá, along with Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Caracas and through Botero’s effort, Medellin, into one of Latin America’s cities to possess a rich and very attractive art collection, representative of the different artistic tendencies of the 150 years. Fernando Botero began to compile this collection 25 years ago. The fact that he himself is an artist allows him to have a “trained eye” to distinguish a good piece of art from another one. Therefore, when he runs into a piece of art, he looks for concepts such as sensuality, seduction, liberty of shapes, pictorial and decorative effects and the freedom of execution that he thinks a work of art should assemble. This spectacular museum should be a priority in your visit and shall not be missed for any reason whatsoever.
