Concepcion Historic Church is one of the oldest churches in Bogota and part of the first convent built in the city, It was first occupied by the nuns of the Holy Conception, then by the Poor Clares, and finally by the Capuchins. The foundation stone was laid in 1583 and the inscription over the door says Juan Sanchez Garcia built it. The structure consists of stone blocks interspersed with brick and covered with plaster. There is a single nave, with a slightly curved false vault, decorated with geometrical figures, fruits and flowers. The beams of the sanctuary have superb, Moorish-style carvings with cherubim, dragons, flowers, and stars. The carvings on the chancel arch are rich in icons and Christian symbols in the form of angel faces and plant-shaped motifs.
