Jose Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden With an area of 19 hectares divided into 15 zones accor ding to the different types of plants, accordingto species or weather, the Botanical Garden offers guided visits. The Botanical Garden displays a world of nature and color Jose Celestino Mutis, after whom the Garden was narked, was the director of the Botanical Expedition in the late XVIII Century. The administration of the Garden promotes and provides activities on conservation, and environmental education and research on the immense diversity of Colombia’s flora, especially in the savanna. The Garden was inaugurated in 1955 by scientist Enrique Perez, and its collections contain examples of Andean woodland, oak grove, mist woodland, conifers, cryptogams (plants which never flower), a herbarium for medicinal plants, a rose garden, a circuit of greenhouses containing plants from hot, dry, and wet climates.
Access to the garden is on foot or by car There is a lake, as waterfall, laboratories, propagation tunnels, an environment hall, and an auditorium for lectures and concerts. Services include the library, video-forum, sale of publications, restaurant and cafeteria, and commercial plant nursery. There are workshops for children, environmental expeditions, technical advisory services, and seasonal exhibitions of orchids, bromelias, roses, bonsai, and heliconias.
