Monument to Jorge Isaac is located next to the Plazoleta of Avenida 2 Norte with Calle 10 and 11, Next to the Municipal Administrative Center, In 1920 a group of ladies caleñas and bugueñas moved by the reading of the work “MARIA” decided to make a A homage to the writer of the work Jorge Isaacs, promoting the creation of a monument in his honor, they contacted the poets Ricardo Nieto, Carlos Villafañe, Blas Scarpetta, Alberto and Maria Carvajal, to discuss the idea and thus the work arose. This was entrusted to the Catalan sculptor Carlos A Perea, who recreates the literary work in a sculptural set sculpted artistically in Carrara marble, where the protagonists appear: Efraín and María reading the poetry book of Atala, the dog Mayo, the fateful Ave Black and bust of writer Isaacs on top.
