The monument to Sebastián de Belalcázar is located in Santiago de Cali, capital of Valle del Cauca, Colombia. It is a statue of Sebastián de Belalcázar, a Spanish conqueror who founded the city on June 25, 1536 and it is one of the most iconic monuments in the city.
Visiting the Sebastián de Belalcázar observation point (Mirador Sebastián de Belalcazar) is helpful in understanding the geography of Cali. Here on the hill bearing the name of the city’s founder, the right hand of the conqueror’s statue points towards the sea. This place is very busy on Sunday afternoons, when artists and singers perform here.
