A weekend ritual for many Caleños is to hike up El Cerro de las Tres Cruces (Three Cross Hill), west of the Santa Monica neighborhood.
The Hill of the Three Crosses Urban Hiking in Cali, Colombia located in the corregimiento of Montebello in the rural area of the municipality. It is located north-west of the city and has 1480 masl. At its top are the Tres Cruces monument, a police station and several telecommunications antennas.
The ascent begins in the place known as Altos de Normandía, in the neighborhood Normandy; They rise about 480 meters. Each Holy Week, parishioners go up to their summit as a sign of their faith.
The monument began to be built in 1937, the plans and construction were carried out by the engineer Argemiro Escobar and the master builder Luis Felipe Perea.1 The base is 420 m², the central cross is the largest with 26 m height and 11 m wide, while the lateral crosses are 22 m high and 8 m wide.
The monument of the Three Crosses was built because, it is said, the devil appeared on the hill and cursed the inhabitants of Cali, so to counter this curse a father organized the construction of these to lock it inside the hill itself. Initially they were made in guadua but later the change was made by the actual concrete.
