A park with one large cat sculpture and 15 smaller ones, all painted by different Colombian artists.
Cat Park (El Gato del Río) is a work of the painter and sculptor Hernando Tejada which he donated to the city of Cali, Colombia, which was installed on the river bank of the city, in the northwest sector of the city, known as Normandy. Over time it has become one of the most emblematic monuments of the city, along with the statue of Sebastian de Belalcázar and the Cerro de Cristo Rey.
Ten years after the inauguration of the monument, in October 2006 the Cali Chamber of Commerce led an initiative to recover not only the monument, but also its surroundings. For this purpose he promoted the exhibition of a collection of fifteen complementary sculptures, all with the same structural basis but painted and decorated by plastic artists. The initiative called ‘cat lovers’ also promoted the adaptation of a park around the original monument. Colombian artists such as Maripaz Jaramillo and Omar Rayo participated in the design of the cats.
