Nuquí is a municipality and town in the Chocó Department, Colombia. The municipality of Nuquí is located in the department of Chocó in the Western part of Colombia between the mountainous area of Baudó and the Pacific Ocean. Nuquí has a great ethnic and cultural diversity as well as a big variety of flora and fauna. Nuquí has 8.096 inhabitants, 3095 of which living in the municipal capital. The mayority of the population are Afro-Colombians, another part of the population is represented by members of indigenous tribes. Nuquí was founded as a municipality in 1915, before it was a sub-division of the municipality Valle, Chocó.

Population
Coqui: Coquí is a community of about 250 people right on the beach in the Department of Chocó, Colombia, just south of the city of Nuquí. Coquí consists mainly of fishing families, although many families also tend small fincas where they grow plantains, yucca and rice in the mountains behind the town. Fishermen leave before the sun each morning in groups of 2-3, returning with the day’s catch by the early afternoon. As in the other communities in Chocó, the fish they catch is all sold right in town.
Joví, Chocó, Colombia: Joví, sometimes spelled Jobi, is a small community in the Department of Chocó, on Colombia’s Pacific coast. The community is built near the beach, hemmed in by the Río Joví and the mountains that crowd the Chocó coastline. Like other communities in the region, Joví is largely Afro-Colombian, although there are a handful of indigenous families that live in the community and many more in communities nearby. There are about 400 people in Joví, making it one of the larger communities in the area. Fishing is primary industry in Joví, although there is also income from small-scale agriculture and tourism.
Playa Blanca, Chocó, Colombia: The island is managed by a large local family, which has a concession to run the restaurant on the island even though it is in the national park. The family has had a presence on Playa Blanca for generations, outdating the creation of the national park in in the late 1970s.

- HOW TO GET THERE: To get to Nuquí there are two access routes: 1.- Airway: Nuquí has the Reyes Murillo Airport that receives flights of very small aircraft from Medellín with the airlines ADA and Satena. These flights last 50 minutes. From Quibdó and with the same airlines, the flight takes 15 minutes. 2.- Waterway: Although there is no access by river, there is by sea from Buenaventura, in a journey that takes 8 hours to complete, or from Bahía Solano, 2 hours.
- Climate: The summer months are usually January, February, March and mid-August. The rest of the year there are rains, which accentuate normally between October and the first days of December. GASTRONOMY OF NUQUI CHOCO
