La Tertulia Museum, formerly known as the Museum of Modern Art La Tertulia, is an art museum in Cali, Colombia.
La Tertulia Museum of Modern Art was Founded in 1956 by Maritza Uribe de Urdinola and reopened in the current building in 1962. It shows more than 300 works by national and international artists.
It was born from the initiative of a group of lawyers and artists who met periodically to hold gatherings and entertaining conversations about art and cultural affairs of the city, hence its name. With the Río Cali as guardian, surrounded by wide green areas and with a couple of water sources, lies in the west of Cali one of the cultural temples of the city.
The Museum of Modern Art La Tertulia is located in the area known as the Peñón to the west of the city on Avenida Colombia that runs parallel to the Cali River, among large trees, green areas and beautiful water sources, where the city’s spa was formerly located.
Its construction is a sample of modern architecture flourishing in the 60s, it is inspired by the magnificent Greek temples that house the buildings between large columns and today it is recognized as a symbol of the city.
This museum has five exhibition rooms, in which as a visitor you can travel between different historical periods, learn about the creations of great inventors of humanity, or delight in the masterpieces of artists from different times and places.
La Tertulia is a cultural complex that is made up of a large exhibition room ready for the exhibition of drawings, paintings, engravings and sculptures by national and international artists, where there are also launches and relevant cultural and plastic events in Valle del Cauca and the country; two auditoriums, graphic arts and restoration workshops, a small art shop and several apartments for visiting artists, a traveling exhibition hall, the open-air theater, the basement and the cinematheque, constantly showing non-commercial and cinema films art. The most recent construction provided the museum with a library, cafeteria and a large parking area.
