Cartagena is a port located in the Caribbean. The city is a Unesco preservation site. This region was originally inhabited by Indians. When America was discovered by Columbus the region was colonized by the Spanish. The city became an important trading port in the Caribbean. Both the fortress and the harbor are still intact and are important tourist attractions. Many cruise lines make a stopover in Cartagena. Cartagena has a tropical savannah climate. This climate type is characterized by both high temperatures and high humidity figures all year round. Cartagena has two rainy seasons. Most precipitation can be recorded in April and May. After this Cartagena has a fairly dry period. In October and November precipitation figures are high again. Because of its location in the interior there is only a small risk of hurricanes here.
