Located on a hill at 150 m high, the former convent is located one kilometer from the fortress of San Felipe. His name is linked to the stern form of the hill.
Located at the top of the Cerro de la Popa (Stern Hill)this important construction was founded by Augustinian monks in 1606. It owes its name to its similarity to the stern of a boat, something which was pointed out by mariners. Consecrated to the image of the Virgin of Candelaria this religious complex houses many treasures, including the altar of its temple, adorned with gold leaf; religious art oil paintings, and a 360-degree viewpoint, allowing visitors the chance to observe the city of Cartagena in all its glory.
