Meet the National Aviary in Barù !. a magical nature sanctuary. It is recognized as the largest Aviary in Colombia and the second largest in Latin America, with 138 species of birds and 1,800 specimens, among them: Pink Flamingos, Tucàn Caribeño, among others. During the month of November, admission is Free for children up to 12 years old.

Aviario Nacional in Cartagena, Colombia, is conservation organization that seeks, through a modern and representative exhibition of avifauna in natural environments, to promote knowledge about Colombian biodiversity, its sustainable use and responsible management.

To be leaders in research, for the conservation of the neotropical avifauna in Latin America and a world reference in relation to the study and management of birds in captivity and in their natural environment.

One of the objectives of the Aviary is the investigative task, which includes captive reproduction of mainly threatened species, for which purpose it is intended to establish institutional alliances and work on associative aspects with the environmental authorities.

Transportation to de Aviary in Baru / Cartagena

The Aviary Shuttle leaves Cartagena most mornings and is $20 per person round trip (60.000 COP). 24hrs advance notice reservation is required. Often we can pick you up at your hotel, depending on the number of bookings.

Transportation to de Aviary in Public Bus + Taxi – Baru / Cartagena

Start by taking a bus from Cartagena to Pascaballos from the intersection of Calle 30 and Carrera 17 which is at the base of the San Felipe Castle. The ride is about a half hour and should cost less than 2.000 COP. From Pascaballos you can take a mototaxi (approx 10.000 COP) or regular taxi to Aviario (approx 30.000 COP for up to 4 passangers). Make sure to get the phone number/WhatsApp contact of your taxi so you can call for a ride back to Pascaballos.
