Walled City Cartagena Colombia, it is the most preserved and complete fortification in South America, and one of the best walled cities in the world. It runs along the 11 kilometers of the walled cordon, one of the most important attractions of Cartagena, declared a World Cultural Heritage Site and an invaluable treasure that has resisted the attacks of invaders, time and nature.
An intrinsic part of Cartagena, this architectural complex offers visitors a chance to relive its history from the pirate attacks that motivated its construction to its present day use as a structure that protects its historic center. That Walled City were built around the city using materials from the immediate environment including; coral limestone, ceramic bricks and cemented by a lime-sand mortar.

The “Port, Fortresses and Group of Monuments” was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco and given the status of Cultural Heritage of the Nation by the Colombian government. It was built between the first half of the seventeenth and early nineteenth century, with a design from the italian military engineer Bautista Antonelli, 3 kilometers of fortifications, 13 batteries, 7 forts, 3 breakwaters and 21 bastions are still preserved today.
