Historical Museum of Cartagena: located on Plaza de Bolivar, this is a fascinating place. Over the course of 200 years, the inquisition burned five or six accused heretics and witches.
Previously known as the Palacio de la Inquisición (Palace of the Inquisition) this museum was created in 1924 with the aim of exhibiting key information about the history of the city, especially related to the period of the Inquisition. Torture devices, including the gruesome breast ripper and thumb crusher are part of the museum, which condenses over 500 years of history, stretching from the African roots of the city to Cartagena of the twenty first century.
Address: Cra. 3 #33-46, Plaza de Bolivar – Palacio de la Inquisición
schedule: Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm and Sundays and Public Holidays from 10am. to 4pm.
