Where to eat in Tunja
You’ll find a wide range of international cuisine in the center of Tunja, covering carreras 11 and 12, where Mexican and Spanish restaurants accompany fast food joints. In the south of the city, in the Libertador (Liberator) and Bolivar neighborhoods you can participate in “Runta Thursdays” a local tradition where you can enjoy the traditional dishes of the region such as the cuchuco de trigo con espinazo (wheat soup with pork backbone), the famous cocido boyacense (a dish combining ingredients such as the mashua, oca, beans, peas, potatoes and ulluco, accompanied by cuts of pork, beef and chicken) and a variety of pork products: rellena (black pudding), longaniza sausages, ribs and chicharron totiado (pork rinds), among others. In the northern zone of the city you’ll find more food options as local eateries are complemented by a number of international restaurants.
