The Church and Convent of San Agustín is a Renaissance building located next to the Park Pínzón in the historic center of the city of Tunja in Colombia. Initially it was a convent and church, then a college, a university, a prison and finally it is the headquarters of the Cultural Center of the Bank of the Republic, the postgraduate headquarters in History of the UPTC and the Regional Archive of Boyacá.
History: The convent is a building of great proportions begun in 1578, with four galleries and a central garden of style Sevillano finished in 1603. It is on the Cercado de Quiminza, sacred place and seat of the cacicazgo of the government of the Zaques, governors of the Muisca village. In the place was celebrated the Eucharist of the Hispanic day of the city in 1539.
Main attractions: Historical archive, made up of documents of cabildo and notary, seals, signatures and symbology of the 371 years of hispanic period and independence, is the act of foundation of the city and the Royal Certificate that grants the real title of subscribed city By King Charles I.
