Boyaca Bridge is important place is located on the outskirts of the town of Tunja, It’s where the historic Batalla de Boyacá (Battle of Boyacá) was fought on August 7,1819, a key moment in the fight for independence waged by the General Simón Bolívar. Several monuments have been erected here including: the estatua del general Santander (statue of General Santander), located in the Plaza de las Banderas (Flags square), the continuously burning Llama de la Libertad (Liberty Flame) and the La Gloria de Bolívar (Glory of Bolivar monument) designed by the German Ferdinand Von Muller. This complex is open year-round and is 14 kilometers (8 miles) from Tunja on the Tunja-Bogotá road.
