The Church of Nuestra Señora del Milagro del Topo is one of 14 large Hispanic churches in Tunja. Its construction dates from 1729 (XVII), however, it changed its name to the virgin of the Miracle in 1880.1 There Catholics venerate the image of Our Lady of the Miracle attended by hundreds of pilgrims on Saturdays and Sundays, and the first Sunday in June , Day in which one of the most massive celebrations takes place in the Plaza de Bolivar de Tunja.
The story of the appearance is oral tradition because the nuns were exclaustradas years after the appearance of the image and most of the written accounts of the event were lost.
Tradition tells us that in a small cell in the old monastery of the Conceptualists, there was a white mantle, in the earliest hours of August 24, 1628, the mantle gave off an unnatural sheen and in the water of the rain reflected the Image of the Immaculate Virgin to the two nuns who lived in the cell. The Archbishop of Bogotá, who was there in those days, went to observe the miracle and ordered that the doors of the convent be opened so that the whole crowd gathered there by the ringing of the bells could observe the image.
