la Vega – Villeta – Guaduas: Cultural Roots, Adventure and Nature – Bogota Travel Guide
This route starts at the Siberia roundpoint, lorth West of Bogota, after taking Calle 80 id the carretera central, a wide road in ex-sllent conditions leading to San Francisco, a corner of beautiful fields and landscapes invi ting visitors to enjoy the charm and beauty of nature. The first attractions found are royal paths like the one in El Yunque, which leads to Subachoque, La Roca hot springs and San Francisco de Sales church, built in 1857.
Then we find Supata town, from where El Tablazo hill can be climbed, and Hispania lagoon can be visited. A delicious cup of coffee, or a glass of orange juice can be enjoyed here.
Back to central road, some kilometers away, we find the town of La Vega. La Zoraida ecotourist park is located at its entrance, gathering concepts of native Colombian tradition, an ideal place for hi king, horse riding and fishing. This park is a good sample of the Gualiva region, due to its beautiful and varied landscapes. Only 10 kilometers away we find El Tabacal lagoon. Here, famous roscones rebosados and other pastries can be tasted.
A detour to the right leads to Nocaima, a town of nice weatherand beautiful landscapes, ideal forholidays. Its Gran Pozo Azufrado (hot springs) offers medicinal properties. Very close by is Vergara, a land of farming and fish breeding, a church, Teresa hill, Pinzaima riven and the huge centenary ceiba tree standing in the middle of its main square.
The road then leads to the town of Ni-maima, featuring a natural park, Barandil-las waterfalls, 80 meters high, perfect for rappel and rafting; other places are La Salina ecotourist park; Liverpool lagoon and Rio Negro, a good place for canoeing. Handcrafts made of hay are sold in this area.
Back to central road, travelers get to Vi lleta, a hot-weathered town, 842 meters above sea level, a good hotel infrastructure, recreational centers and natural spots like Rio Villeta, Paso Real and Los Micos waterfalls (seven in total). The region produces panela, honey and sugarcane, plus handcrafts made of iraca ortoquilla fibers.
The trip continues among sugar cane plantations, wheat, valleys and creeks, to then reach Quebrada Negra, a town rich in agriculture, known for its exquisite chanfaina: a dish made of lamb.
The next destination is Utica, a town located in a beautiful valley, surrounded by a mountainous landscape, and served by Rio Negro, with sugar cane crops and re creational farms, a good offer for tourists.
Our voyage continues to the historical colonial town of Guaduas, the birthplace of Policarpa Salavarrieta, a heroine of freedom. This is called the “city of viceroys” as some of them used to come here to spend their holidays. Guaduas has a good hotel infrastructure. In its surroundings, natural settings like Salto de Versalles, Piedra Capira viewpoint, Rio Negro bathing spot and rfo Guaduero and Quebradahonda pools can be enjoyed.
The return to Bogota follows the same path.
