The Old Point Mangle Regional Park is a wildlife sanctuary located on the eastern side of San Andrés in Hooker and Haynes bays, near the city center. Travelers can observe a mangrove system in which live mussels, crabs, iguanas and lizards, and endemic and migratory birds.

With an area close to 247.56 hectares (2.48 square kilometers), Old Point Regional Mangrove Park stands as one of the most important biological reserves in the department of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, having diverse biological communities mangrove forests and macroalgae, salt water lagoons and an important area of ​​tropical dry forest. In addition, this park is an ecosystem with a wide richness and diversity of flora and fauna that includes, among others, fish, birds, crustaceans, mollusks and reptiles.

However, this mangrove paradise, according to Edgar Patiño, professor at the Utadeo School of Product Design and consultant for the Coralina Project, is little known by Colombians, even by the island’s inhabitants. “Old Point Park has a very strong memory in terms of conservation in San Andrés, especially in mangrove reserve areas, and it has very important agendas for the conservation of the Seaflower Biosphere, which is one of the most important reserves in the world. world, but that Colombians do not know or have little information”, he assures.

In a public-private alliance between Utadeo and the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina (Coralina), with funding from the Environmental Compensation Fund of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and Chevron-Texaco, and the support from the University Consulting Office, during 2018 the design, development and production of the information system of the ecotourism trail of this park was carried out.
