Cathedral of St. Joseph (spanish: Catedral de San José, Cúcuta) is considered one of the most beautiful religious sites in the city it is characterized by its pure Romanesque style, displayed in its stained glass windows from Spain, oil paintings, Doric style chapiters and stone veneer facade, making this cathedral an architectural jewel of the department.
Cathedral of St. Joseph is a religious temple of Catholic worship under the patronage of San José, located in the central area of the city of Cúcuta (Colombia) and belongs to the large group of temples that are in the center of the city; In the case of the cathedral, located in front of the Santander Park as well as the mayor’s office. Its construction began in the mid-nineteenth century and culminated in the early 70’s of the same century. The church was destroyed due to the earthquake of 1875 and later rebuilt in the same place in a process that lasted more than 50 years. It was erected as Cathedral and main headquarters of the Diocese of Cúcuta when the latter was founded, on May 29, 1956.
