In the emberá language Quibdo means ‘where the rivers meet’, a name that reflects the impressive water resources of the capital of Chocó, where the most important tibutaries of the Pacific and the San Juan, Baudó and Atrato rivers come together. There are lots of places to visit like the Malecón (board-walk), a green area which in addition to peace and tranquility offers a great view of the rio Atrato (Atrato River) that delimits the city. A few meters from here is the Catedral San Francisco de Asis (St. francis of Assist Cathedral), an enclosure that stands out due to the mural in its presbyter which represents the conquest, colonization and liberation of the Chocó people. The Convento de los Claretianos (the Claretian Convent), considered a cultural and historic gem of the city, is one of the must see buildings in Quibdo thanks to its imposing Republican type facade and Capilla a la Memoria Histórica (Chapel to Historical Memory) which also displays an exhibition of atworks donated by the ethnic artist Freddy Sanchez.
