Getting around Barranquilla is relatively simple as it has a system of calles going from north to south, and carrera from east to west, rio Magdalena (Magdalena River) delimits the city from north to south, and traffic flows this same direction on the Via 40 (Route 40), which connects to other main roads in the city including the Boyaca and Olaya Herrera avenidas (avenues).

The famous Via 40 (Route 40), crosses the city from south to north and vice versa; The Avenida Circunvalar (Bypass avenue) which connects to the beaches of Puerto Colombia and in turn with the Troncal del Caribe (Caribbean Highway), which goes to Cartagena.
