Also known as Casa del Florero (the House of the Vase – House of the 20th of July), this colonial building dates back to the end of the 16th century and beginning of the 17th century. It stands at the north-east corner of the Plaza de Bolivar and was the scene of the historic events of july XX, 1810-a dispute over a vase between a Spaniard José González Llorente and two natives, Antonio and Francisco Morales, led to the War of Independence.
The museum has ten rooms, with exhibitions illustrating the struggle for independence. There are personal objects, portraits, engravings, drawings, sculptures, uniforms, and other historic mementos. There is a copy of the Declaration of Independence, a collection of Colombian constitutions the protests of Camilo Torres, uniforms and documents of General Francisco de Paula Santander, and portraits of the General and other leaders of the revolutionary war.
